Duchess of Cambridge Executes Perfect Maneuver to Get Into F-18 Cockpit

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge had a busy day in Queensland on Saturday. Catherine and William visited the Royal Australian Air Force base at Amberley. Catherine looked lovely in the Lasa Poppy Dress by LK Bennett. That dress looked really familiar, until we realized that we just saw it on Mindy Kaling in the most recent episode of The Mindy Show. Catherine accessorized with her diamond and sapphire drop earrings, her Fortune necklace by Mappin & Webb and her Cartier watch. She impressed everyone by getting into the cockpit of an F-18 Hornet while wearing four inch heels and and the slim-fitting dress. And she did it flawlessly, with no wardrobe malfunction whatsoever.

In fact, The Telegraph's Gordon Rayner was so impressed he wrote, "Debrett's Guide to Etiquette does not include advice on how to get in and out of a fighter jet in a ladylike fashion, but if it did, the Duchess of Cambridge could write it." Indeed she could. In fact some speculated that she was the first woman in history to get into the cockpit of an F-18 in a skirt and heels. In any event, she charmed everyone and looked fabulous doing it.

Here is Rayner's detailed description of how she did it: "Aware that photographers' lenses were trained on her, the Duchess executed a three-stage manoeuvre that made sure the minimum amount of thigh was on display. After putting her left foot across her right on to the step plate at the root of the port wing, the Duchess brought her right leg over and into the cockpit, moved her left leg into line, then slid into the ejector seat of the 39 million aircraft."

We have to wonder if this was covered in princess training. It's not the kind of maneuver that comes up in daily life, certainly. Then again, she also managed to run on the beach in 3 1/2" wedge heels and even play a bit of cricket. We just love her. Take a look:
