Disguised Adele Enters an Adele Impersonator Contest on the BBC

Posted on November 21, 2015

Adele is out promoting her new album, 25, but she made time for a fun prank. As part of a new BBC show, British talk show host Graham Norton talked Adele into competing in a contest for Adele impersonators. The impersonators were told they were competing to be selected to perform in an Adele tribute show. Adele really got into it: she wore a prosthetic chin and nose and had her makeup done so as to change the shape of her mouth.

Graham was shocked when he saw Adele in costume. Adele announced she would be Jenny for the competition and would talk with a slow, calm voice -- like a nanny. She wore long gloves to cover up her tattoos. She went backstage with the other contestants and tried to keep a low profile. But the other contestants were a friendly lot and chatted with her a bit.

One impersonator told the group, "Can't wait for the new album!" Jenny/Adele snapped back, "She'’s really taking her time." That made another impersonator laugh and say, "try saying that to her face!" The wait time was really long and Jenny/Adele began to feel faint saying how unwell she felt. The other impersonators were kind and one offered to help her get some air. But Jenny/Adele soldiered on and finally got her turn to perform.

She missed her cue and had to start again. Then she began to sing "Make You Feel My Love" and brought the house down. When she hit those notes, the impersonators' jaws dropped open -- and one recognized her immediately. You really can't fake that voice. The other contestants were so happy and excited to see the real Adele; it was actually quite heartwarming. Take a look:
