Dropping The Weather Channel seems like an odd choice for cost cutting as it is a channel many like to check for weather and travel conditions. It also is not one of the priciest channels, so it can't be saving DirecTV that much money by dropping it. The Wall Street Journal reports that DirecTV wanted to reduce its fees to carry The Weather Channel by over 20%.
Jim Cantore stopped by CNN's Reliable Sources to talk about the black out. He argues that the channel helps save lives. He also says they have received an outpouring of support from viewers. Take a look:
