Dior Couture Denies Allegations That Jennifer Lawrence's Gown Split at the SAG Awards
Jennifer Lawrence looked stunning in a midnight blue, strapless Dior couture gown as she accepted her award for Best Actress at the SAG Awards. But many said she had a major wardrobe malfunction when her Dior gown split in the front, revealing her upper thighs to the world. Dior set the record straight today. In a statement the couture house explained, "The dress is made with different levels of tulle and satin and that is what the viewers saw when Jennifer lifted her dress slightly. It was not ripped and there was no malfunction...it was the design of the gown." If you watch the video below, you can see the layers of the skirt. When Jennifer has trouble getting to the stage, she pulls up on the skirt, which lifted the panel exposing the sheer panel underneath. She does it again when she goes up the steps to the stage, but quickly realizes her error and smooths it back down.
Clearly, the gown was designed with a sheer panel underneath so it would not be bulky. Watch Marion Cotillard's horrified reaction when it looks as if Jennifer is going to have to accept her award with no skirt on. Jennifer gave a fabulous acceptance speech. She started out by thanking MTV, which is pretty funny for the SAG Awards. She then explained that it's because of MTV that she got her SAG card. Take a look:
