Dan Stevens talked to Willie Geist and Jenna Bush Hager on Today about last season's shocking Downton Abbey finale. The loss of Matthew Crawley hit fans of the show really hard. To make matters worse the finale aired on Christmas Day in the U.K.
Jenna says she's not over the episode. She says she was about eight months pregnant when she watched it. Jenna says, "There should of been some sort of warning because that was very traumatic for very many viewers."
Stevens says he spends a lot of time having to explain and apologize. He says it happens almost every day. Stevens says, "It's a testament to how much people love the show and how much people love the character. In a way it was nice, but also it has upset a lot of people. I'm sorry."
Stevens say leaving was a tough decision to make. He stars in Summer in February, which arrives in theaters on January 17. Stevens says the project has been in the works for a long time. He is also a producer on the film. Take a look:
