McFarlane Designs Collectible Napoleon Dynamite Toys

Posted on July 23, 2005

McFarlane Toys has created collectible figures for some of the characters from the popular Napoleon Dynamite movie that will be available this November. The figures include Kip, Pedro and three Napoleon Dynamites: one dancing, one wearing his prom outfit and one playing tetherball.

McFarlane Toys was founded by comic-book artist Todd McFarlane and makes characters based on film stars, comic book heroes, bands and sports stars. Todd McFarlane told MTV News that the idea for the Napoleon Dynamite figures came about in April when he noticed people where quoting lines from the movie.

McFarlane says, "We try to make figures based on films that have an effect on people. And 'Napoleon' definitely had an effect on a whole lot of people. Everywhere I went, people were spouting off lines from the film and talking about their favorite scenes. So I knew we were on to something. And that's when we began talking to [director] Jared Hess about making the figures."

Napoleon Dynamite was also named the Best Movie at this year's MTV Movie Awards so the toys will probably be a hit too. The toys will be available this November for $12.99 each except for the deluxe talking Napoleon figure which will cost $39.99. McFarlane also told MTV that if the toys sell well they may do a second line that include Tina the llama and other characters. A Tina toy. Yessssssss!
