Sotheby's is Selling Benjamin Button's House

Posted on January 24, 2009

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt was nominated for 13 Academy Awards. Some critics don't think the film deserved that many but the Times-Picayune thinks a major star of the film was overlooked. The Times-Picayune thinks the New Orleans' house featured in the film deserves an Oscar for best supporting role by a family homestead.

But if Oscars were given for best supporting role by a family homestead, the house at 2707 Coliseum St. surely would be winning a gold statuette to place atop one of its hand-carved mahogany mantelpieces.

Those who have seen the movie will recognize the sprawling, 8,000-plus-square-foot raised centerhall cottage as the old folks' home where Benjamin Button (Brad Pitt) is raised by the resident manager, Queenie (Taraji P. Henson).

The Times-Picayune may be onto something. Should their be an Oscar for Settings?

The famous movie house is now up for sale. Sotheby's describes the home as a "7,800 sq. ft. Garden District mansion w/incredible Victorian details. Music room, library, reception hall, 6 bedrooms & much more."

This clip from the film called "Leaving Home" provides many views of the home inside and out.
