CALM Act is in Effect Now: Commercials Cannot Be Louder Than Television Programming

This week the CALM Act (Commercial Advertisement Loudness Mitigation law) went into effect. The law, which was signed by President Obama in 2010 after a bipartisan effort towards its passage, limits the volume of TV commercials. The law went into effect Thursday, December 13th. So when commercials interrupt your favorite TV program, they should not be any louder than the show you are watching.

If you are still hearing super-loud commercials, you should report them to the FCC at its website, http://www.fcc.gov, or give them a call at 1-888-TELL-FCC (1-888-225-5322). Here The Today Show anchors discuss the new law:
