Google Opens First Pop-up Store in London

Google LogoThe London Evening Standard reports that Google has opened its first store. This first Google store is not a stand-alone store, but a store within a store. The 285-square-foot pop-up store is located inside of a PC World store in Tottenham Court Road in London.

In the pop-up store, Google is showcasing its Chromebook laptop, as well as some accessories. The company went with a soft launch. There was very little foot traffic in the Google pop-up store. That will probably change as more people hear about it.

This is a very small foray into retail for Google, but the company does have larger retail plans. Arvind Desikan, head of consumer marketing at Google UK, told the London Evening Standard, "It is our first foray into physical retail. This is a new channel for us and it's still very, very early days. It's something Google is going to play with and see where it leads."

The article also says "more pilot shops are planned around the world in the coming months." No word on when Google will open a pop-up store in the U.S. or whether the search engine giant will eventually open any bricks-and-mortar stores like Apple and Microsoft.
