Domo Invades 7-Eleven Stores

Domo 7-Eleven

Domo, a fuzzy brown creature with a giant open-mouth expression, is storming into 7-Eleven stores this fall. Domo apears on Slurpee cups, coffee cups, straws and even on 7-Eleven's hot dog containers. Domo was created by Japanese illustrator and director Tsuneo Goda as the mascot for Japanese public television station NHK in 1998. The Japanese monster's image has spread on the Internet and has become part of popular culture.

Collectible cups feature Domo and his furry sidekicks enjoying Slurpee drinks and one showing Domo experiencing a Brainfreeze. For Domo fans, a tiny flocked Domo character is affixed to premium Slurpee straws, selling for $1.99. There are four Slurpee straws features Domo sporting a different costume and accessories. There is also a three-part Domo webisode - online at slurpee.com and domonation.com - that tells the story of Domo and his friends on a quest for a Slurpee beverage.

7-Eleven is confident that its consumers will go wild for the Domos. Evan Brody, marketing manager for Slurpee and Big Gulp Brands, recently told BrandWeek that its consumers "love crazy Japanese shit."
