There may be a celebrity doll trend brewing. Friday we discussed an Angelina Jolie doll and now Billboard is reporting that a limited edition Kate Perry doll will be released next week. Kate Perry's song "I Kissed a Girl" was a big hit this summer.
Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart this summer. "It makes good sense for Katy who is a blossoming global pop culture superstar," said Bob Semanovich, the L.A. based svp, marketing, for Perry's label Capitol Music Group. "It's a perfect extension of her brand as she's music, fashion and everything pop culture."
The doll, which retails for $49.99, is similar to the one seen in Perry's video for "U.R. So Gay," the first single off her second album, "One of the Boys". New York based toy maker Integrity Toys produced both sets of dolls and says it is only making 500. Of that number, roughly 150 will be distributed within the record industry to tastemakers, media and other interested parties.
Jason Wu, creative director for Integrity Toys, told Billbord he expects the 500 dolls to sell out within two days. The order page can be found here. (via Perez Hilton)
