Amazon.com has launched the Kindle Fire, its new tablet. The tablet is priced at $199, which is well under the $499 price for the lowest iPad. However, the 7-inch touchscreen display Kindle Fire is smaller than the iPad. The device also lacks some of the features of the iPad 2 and other tablets, such as a camera. The price for the tablet is $50 less than what was anticipated. It should put price pressure on other manufacturers to lower tablet prices this holiday season and on Black Friday.
The Kindle Fire can be used for reading books, watching movies and tv, browsing the web and playing games. Features include 8 GB of storage, up to 8 hours of battery life, USB 2.0 connector and 3.5 mm stereo audio jack. The device comes with Wi-Fi support, but wireless support is not available. Amazon will offer free cloud storage with the device to store your content. The Kindle Fire runs a browser called Amazon Silk, which supports Flash.
The Kindle fire will be released on November 15, 2011. Amazon.com is currently taking pre-orders on its Kindle Fire page.
