The Lion King Wins Box Office Again, Defeats Brad Pitt's Moneyball
The return of The Lion King to the box office in a new 3D format has been a surprise hit. The film won the box office for a second consecutive weekend and defeated more new movies, including Brad Pitt's sports movie, Moneyball. The Lion King made $22 million and Moneyball made $20.6 million. Dolphin Tale was not far behind. It made $20.2 million and finish third. Dolphin Tale tells the true story of a dolphin, named Winter, that gets a prosthetic tail.
Abduction, starring Taylor Lautner and Lily Collins, fared well in theaters despite a miniscule marketing budget and less than stellar reviews. It made $11.2 million. Abduction was followed by Killer Elite, Contagion and Drive.
