Tyra Banks has started a fantasy adventure book series, which begins with Modelland. The book series was inspired by Tyra's experiences in the fashion world and her main character, Tookie De La Creme, looks like Tyra and is awkward like Tyra was as a teenager.
In this video from her publisher Random House, Tyra appears to have the New York Public Library's famous reading room all to herself. Tyra says she was driving down the FDR in New York City in 2006 when she got the idea for the series. She says she often gets asked "Supermodel - what does that mean, You have super powers?" She started thinking maybe models do have super powers and the idea grew into an idea for a series with models that have super powers and attend a fantasy modeling boarding school.
Tyra says there are some "violent, dark secrets" in Modelland. She also says the novel is "campy as hell." Take a look:
