ShopperTrak Data Shows Retail Foot Traffic Fell 7.7% in August

ShopperTrak RCT Corp.'s Retail Traffic Index reported that total U.S. foot traffic fell 7.7% in August. ShopperTrak also released a National Retail Sales Estimate. This also fell by 5.8% in August. Chain Store Age reports that losses have narrowed slightly compared to the last few months.
Although retail traffic continues to show losses as compared to last year, these declines have narrowed the past two months as June and July traffic levels fell 12.2% and 9.7% respectively compared with the same months in 2008.
Back to school shopping was reported to be down and this data shows that that was indeed the case.
