Apple announced its new iPod touch lineup today. The iPod touch features Apple's Multi-Touch user interface, a 3.5-inch widescreen glass display, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, a built-in accelerometer and a built-in speaker. Apple lowered the price of the 8GB iPod touch to $199. Apple also announced two new models, a iPod touch 32GB model for $299 and a 64GB model for $399. Apple Insider says the new models promise a 50% faster performance.
"At just $199 the iPod touch is the most affordable gateway to Apple's revolutionary App Store with more than 75,000 applications that you can wirelessly download right into your iPod touch," said Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. "You get a great iPod, a great pocket computer with the industry's best mobile web browser and a great game player, all in this super-thin beautiful enclosure."
There was some dissapointment that the new iPod touch devices did not contain cameras, which had been rumored in the weeks leading up to Apple's announcement. The new iPod nanos do have video cameras. Even without a video camera the $199 iPod touch is likely to be very popular over the holidays. $199 a great price for an attractive, easy-to-use gadget that provides access to a huge numbers of applications, videos, music and games.
