Amazon.com Acquires Amie Street and Plans to Close It
Amazon.com has acquired Amie Street, an independent music download website that helps you discover new music. Amazon.com first invested in Amie Street in 2007. Ars Technica reports that Amazon.com will be closing down Amie Street on September 22nd. TechCrunch says the Amie Street website will redirect users to a cobranded Amie Street/Amazon Music Service website. Amie Street uses will get a $5 coupon to purchase songs on Amazon.
Now that are no longer going to be running the Amie Street website, the Amie Street team plan to focus on developing Songza, a website that lets you create your own radio station. You can read the message from the Amie Street team about the closure of the website and the focus on Songza here.
