Hurricane Earl is currently paralleling the coast of North Carolina. It is expected to stay far enough offshore of the North Carolina coast that the state will not get hit by the very worst of the storm. Parts of the North Carolina coasts are still expected to get very strong winds, heavy rain and powerful suf. Cape Cod is located farther east than than the eastern most part of North Carolina and there is still the possibility that Cape Cod could take a direct hit from Hurricane Earl.
