Two U.S. States offer marriage licenses to same-sex couples: Massachusetts and California. California is by far the biggest and most influential. The travel and wedding industries in California have already seized on the revenue opportunity that began when California legalized same-sex marriages earlier this year. California's travel industry already heavily promotes packages for gays visiting the state to marry. ABC has a story about a California's gay wedding boom.
Hallmark is the most recent company to jump on the gay marriage trend. They have launched a line of gay marriage cards. Hallmark will let its retail stores choose whether or not they want to carry the cards. Hallmark also launched a line of "coming out" cards in 2007.
A spokesperson for the Greeting Card Association told the Associated Press that they don't specifically track the number of gay card lines but they do believe the number is on the rise. "The fact that you have someone like Hallmark going into that niche shows it's growing and signals a trend," said Barbara Miller, a spokeswoman for the association.
