MySpace Acquires iLike

MySpace iLikeMySpace is acquiring iLike, a social music discovery service. Brothers Ali and Hadi Partovi founded iLike in 2006. It has quickly climbed to 55 million users. A lot of iLike's growth came from its popularity on Facebook.

"The iLike acquisition advances our relentless pursuit of innovation and the need to create new distributed social experiences in music and beyond," said Owen Van Natta, Chief Executive Officer of MySpace. "We are deeply committed to bringing world class talent into all areas of the company and this acquisition demonstrates our focus on this objective."

The press release says, "iLike users and the artist community should expect the iLike experience to be unaffected by the acquisition." TechCrunch says the acquisition is a lose-lose situation for Facebook. iLike is the most popular music app on Facebook so Facebook either has to allow MySpace to have that much popularity on its service or risk angering its users by banning iLike.
