Smart Clothes Read Your Body's Messages

You've got a smart phone, but the latest fashion trend is smart clothing. Smart clothes read signals from your body. A new line of athletic clothing reads your body's sweat levels and when you perspire enough it displays slogans on the t-shirt, such as "I Am the Competition." Uniqlo has a new line of calorie-burning underwear: we still don't understand how that works, but find the concept intriguing. Some clothing wick away sweat quickly to keep you more comfortable. Some clothes can react to changes in the body and monitor vital signs.

The National Science Foundation is funding research at North Carolina State University's College of Textiles to create clothing that monitors blood pressure, pulse rates and when someone falls. That could be very useful for monitoring elderly patients remotely.
