Giant Ice Island Breaks off Petermann Glacier in Northern Greenland
A giant ice island has broken off the Petermann Glacier in northern Greenland. The ice island will eventually end up in the North Atlantic, although it will take up to four years to get there. A University of Delaware researcher says the floating ice sheet is huge: it covers 100 square miles, more than four times the size of New York's Manhattan Island. He doesn't believe this event is due to global warming, but due to other factors. However, the ice in Southern Greenland is melting at an alarming rate and scientists believe that melting is due to climate change. Take a look:
