G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, which stars Sienna Miller as the Baroness, was the number one movie in theatres this weekend with an impressive $56 million weekend gross. Julie & Julia, which stars Meryl Streep as Julia Child, also fared well taking in over $20 million. Box Office Mojo says this was the biggest box office opening for a live-action cooking-themed movie. Nearly 70% of Julie & Julia's audience was female.
G-Force held its #3 slot from last week and made another $9.8 million. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was fourth and has now grossed over $273 million so far this year. Last week's #1 film Funny People faded to #5. It has made only $40 million - much less than previous Judd Apatow films. The other new film in theatres this week - the thriller, A Perfect Getaway - opened in 7th and made $5.7 million.
