Kenyan Man Renews Livestock Dowry Offer For Chlesea Clinton's Hand in Marriage
Fareed Zakaria asks Secretary of State Hillary Clinton about a Kenyan man's offer for Chelsea Clinton's hand in marriage. Godwin Kipkemoi Chepkurgor first offered 40 goats and 20 cows to President Bill Clinton in 2000. He renewed his dowry offer after Zakaria brought the offer up again during a town hall in Nairobi Thursday night. Zakaria noted that given the global recession, the dowry was "not a bad offer."
Ever the diplomat, Hillary said that Chelsea is "very independent. So I will convey this very kind offer." Chepkurgor is serious about his offer, even though he already married someone else when his first dowry offer was not accepted. But Kenyan law allows polygamy, so that is no barrier.
"Of course I have never met her, but I like her family and how they stick together," Chepkurgor, who runs a computer shop in Nakuru, told CNN. "I've waited for a long time. I'm still waiting to meet her and express my love for her." He says his first wife is fine with it. Here is Hillary's response to the offer for the hand in marriage of her only child:
