Barnes & Noble to Open Nook Boutiques in September
The New York Timesreports that Barnes & Noble will begin aggressively marketing the Nook, its electronic reading device, in September. Barnes & Noble is going to build 1,000-square-foot boutiques for the Nook in each one of its stores. These boutiques will include sample Nook devies and demonstration tables. Barnes & Noble employees will be on hand to show customers how to use the Nook.
William Lynch, chief executive of Barnes & Noble, told the New York Times, "American consumers want to try and hold gadgets before they purchase them."
Barnes & Noble has much work ahead of them if they want to steal ebook marketshare away from ebook leader Amazon.com. Amazon.com recently launched a sleek new graphite version of the Kindle, as well as a lower-priced WiFi only version.
