The explosion of new electronic portables like PDAs, Blackberries and cell phones are changing our lives and making us more available. In the process of transforming communication they are changing our language as well. People, especially teenagers and professionals whose work requires the technology, are adapting to a new type of shorthand that helps expedite communication over the new medium.
LinuxElectronics reports that 2.6 billion text messages were sent in the
first quarter of 2004 alone. And a new dictionary from Tegic, the T9 Dictionary, has been launched to help people keep up with the text messaging language.
