Winter has hit hard in the Midwest and the Northeast after a storm dubbed the Blizzard of 2005 dumped over a foot of snow across a wide area and over two feet in many New England cities. This type of weather drives sales of snowblowers, snowshovels, winter apparel and deicing products. People also buy products for enjoying the weather like sleds. That is if the roads are clear enough for consumers to get to the stores! Also popular with people preparing for big winter storms are staples like bread and milk and beverages like beer and wine. Roger Rioux, the manager of Rocky’s Ace Hardware (a hardware retail chain in New England), told the Herald News that things were a little busier than usual, as people were coming in to purchase rock salt and snow shovels.
