Video: Injuries and Deaths From Commercial Raves on the Increase
Raves were hot a decade ago, then slowly fell out of fashion. The informal raves used to be held in abandoned warehouses or out in a secluded location. But raves have gone commercial and are promoted by companies enticed by the cash that teens and twenty-somethings will fork over for an all-night dance party. One rave in Los Angeles had 185,000 people.
Now, you know what's coming. That many people together always lead to trampling deaths and sometimes full on riots. In this CBS news piece we hear local ER docs talk about the massive drug use at the raves which has led to drug overdoses and death on a regular basis. When a rave is planned, local Emergency Workers prepare as they do for a major train crash. It's gotten so bad with rave injuries that the governor of California has ordered a review of rules governing raves in public venues. Take a look:
