Bloombergreports that the Carlyle Group is looking sell Philosophy, a manufacturer of skin care and beauty products. Carlyle wants to get $1 billion out of the sale, which would be over two times what they paid for it in 2007.
The Washington-based firm hired Goldman Sachs Group Inc. to explore options and may consider an initial public offering if no buyer emerges, said two of the people, who declined to be identified because the sale is private. Carlyle bought Philosophy in March 2007 in a $475 million deal.
Philosophy must be doing well if its value has double in just three years. Retailers include Sephora, J.C. Penney, Nordstrom, Macy's and QVC all carry Philosophy products.
