Small Study Links Increased Tinnitus Risk to Cell Phone Use

The BBC reports that a small study has linked to mobile phone use to an increased tinnitus risk.
Austrian researchers recruited 100 people with the condition and 100 without, and compared mobile phone use.

They found tinnitus was over 70% more likely in those averaging 10 minutes' daily phone use, reported Occupational and Environmental Medicine journal.
The researchers from the Medical University of Vienna said that even though it was only a small sample, the results show more research is needed.

Tinnitus is a noise or ringing in the ears. The Mayo Clinic says tinnitus affects about one in five people.
