Singer Amy Winehouse was reportedly found dead at her apartment in London this morning. BBC, Daily Mail and The Washington Post have stories about her sudden death.
TMZ reports that the following press release was issued by the Metropolitan Police. Amy Winehouse is not mentioned by name in the release.
Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05hrs today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased.
On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Enquiries continue into the circumstances of the death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.
Amy Winehouse was best known for her Back to Black album, which contained her hit song, "Rehab." Amy was only 27 years old. She struggled with alcohol and drugs.
Amy Winehouse was booed off stage at a Belgrade concert last month during a comeback attempt. After the concert, Amy's manager, Raye Cosbert, reportedly told The Sun, "It has been hard for Raye to watch her get into trouble over the years. There's only so much he can do - but enough's enough. She's going away and this time it could be for years."
