The British Royal Family has joined Twitter. You can follow them @BritishMonarchy. The BBC reports that a spokeswoman said they signed up for Twitter so they could "harness the popularity of Twitter to spread news about the Royal Family."
The BBC says the Royal Twitter will provide information about royal engagements and information about what members of the family are doing. They intend for the Twitter to be more of a new service than a "personal voice." The Queen and Prince of Wales know about the Twitter account but they won't be doing any of the tweeting. There are already a lot of tweets on the account because they have been testing for the past several weeks.
The British Monarchy does a good job of keeping up with latest technology. The Queen helped launch the Royal YouTube channel in 2007.
