The Proposal Wins Weekend Box Office

The Proposal

Sandra Bullock's romantic comedy The Proposal was a big hit this weekend. The film made $34.1 million - a very impressive opening for a romantic comedy. The big opening was a career best for both Sandra Bullock and co-star Ryan Reynolds. Sandra Bullock's last #1 opening was Forces of Nature in 1999.

The Hangover refuses to fade away. The film finished second and made another $26 million. It has now made over $150 million for the year to date. Up, which recently crossed the $200 million mark, made another $21 million. Year One - a caveman comedy starring Jack Black and Michael Cera - opened in fourth with a take of $20 million. The 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th slots went to The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Stra Trek and Land of the Lost. You can see the full list here.

We already know what the top grossing film will be next week. It will be Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. The film is sure to be a summer blockbuster. The only question is how big of a hit Transformers 2 will be.
