Former American Idol star Katharine McPhee stars in NBC's new series, Smash, from executive producer Steven Spielberg. The series is scheduled for midseason 2012. The storyline involves a group of characters who are trying to make a Broadway musical. The musical they are making in the series is based on the life of Marilyn Monroe. Katharine McPhee plays a Karen, a girl from Iowa, who is one of the stars trying out for the Marilyn role. Katharine is good at the Broadway numbers and was a good choice for the role. The star-studded tv series also stars Debra Messing, Brian D'Arcy James, jack Davenport, Anjelica Huston and Christian Borle.
