Internet Retailerreports that a new study from the Boston Consulting Group has found that just 29% plan to buy a tablet or ebook reader in the next year. However, the number jumps to 57% when asked if they plan to buy a tablet or ebook reader in the next three years.
The top reasons people want a tablet is to browse the Internet and check email.
90% want to use the device as a web browser
86% want to check email
74% want to watch video
65% want to listen to music
58% want to view personal photos
45% want to play video games
The study also found that most consumers only want to pay about $130 to $200 for a tablet or ebook reader. The Apple iPad costs considerably more than that. The iPad pricing ranges from $499 to $829 depending on the model. Amazon.com's Kindle is priced a little higher than that at $259. Borders new Kobo reader does fall in the range with its $150 price tag. Prices of ebook readers and tablets are expected to fall over the next several years.
