Sony Considering Launching a Tablet to Compete With the iPad
Bloomberg reports that Sony is considering developing a tablet to compete with the Apple iPad. However, Sony is waiting for more evidence people want to buy tablets.
"The iPad has created a new opportunity," Abary said. "Now we can get a good judgment as to whether the market is truly accepting of it." Sony is "not convinced there is a large enough market to justify bringing out a tablet," he said.
One million people have already bought the iPad. That should indicate there is interest in tablets. Sony has an ebook reading device, called the Sony Reader, that competes with the Kindle. They probably want to make sure they won't be competing with their own Reader before launching a tablet. They also have the PSP, a portable gaming device, which could also overlap with a tablet. Sony also recently launched the Sony Dash, a personal Internet viewer.
