Westminster Abbey Unveils Abbey 3D Ahead of Royal Wedding
Westminster Abbey has announced a new app ahead of the Royal Wedding, which gives users the chance to virtually tour the Abbey.
The app opens at the Great West Door, the spot where Catherine Middleton will start her walk down the aisle with her father to the High Altar. Flashing up along the way are "hotspots" of information about key areas of the Abbey, such as the Grave of the Unknown Warrior, and their significance on the day of the wedding.
Archive pictures and potted biographies on key participants at the Royal Wedding will be on the app, as well as a cross-section birds-eye view of the Abbey showing the layout of the church. Bite-size historic facts and archive pictures of previous royal weddings will mean everyone can become something of an expert on Westminster Abbey in time for the big day.
Abbey 3D, which will cost 2.99 pounds, about $4.86 U.S., will be available for Android phones via the Android Market and is coming soon to the Apple Store. Proceeds from sales will be split equally between the Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton Charitable Gift Fund and Westminster Abbey Foundation, which is responsible for the care and upkeep of the Abbey.
