At a Jennifer Hudson and Robin Thicke concert in Atlanta last night, Jennifer introduced a surprise guest: Jennifer Holliday, the woman who really created the character of Effie in Dreamgirls on Broadway back in the 1980s. Jennifer and Jennifer sing their signature song, "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going", as a duet. They have sung this song together before at the BET Awards, but to see them together again was a surprise.
Jennifer Holliday has lost 140 pounds with a liquid fast and then gastric bypass surgery: she's barely recognizable from her days on Broadway. There were concerns that such a large weight loss would wreck her voice (it's happened to opera singers), but her voice seems to be holding up just fine, although her voice does sound strained during part of the performance. Jennifer Hudson sounds great, as usual. Take a look:
