Pier 1 Plans to Relaunch Online Store

Pier 1 Imports LogoInternet Retailer reports that Pier 1 Imports plans to return to ecommerce. Pier 1 stopped selling products online in 2007. A launch date for a Pier1.com store has not been set.
While Pier 1 has yet to release any key details, including a launch date for an e-commerce-enabled Pier1.com, the company’s return to selling online is a top priority, CEO Alex Smith told Wall Street analysts on the retailer’s recent year-end earnings call.

"For the time being Pier1.com will continue to be utilized for marketing and pre-shopping purposes, but at some time in the near future we will make a return to online selling," Smith told analysts. "At this stage our plans are embryonic, but they are plans nevertheless."
There really is no good reason a big chain like Pier 1 should not have an ecommerce option for shoppers. The Pier1.com website currently lets customers preview Pier 1 products, but they cannot purchase them from the website. The retailer does have Facebook, Twitter and MySpace accounts, so they are on top of social networking.
