Time Magazine Launches iPad App

Posted on April 4, 2010

Time is one of the few magazines that already has an app created specifically for the iPad. Time says its app includes the entire print edition of Time as well exclusive international coverage not available in the U.S. print edition. The iPad version of Time also includes videos, photo slideshows and live updates of top stories. Times is charging $4.99 for each weekly digital issue.

Publishers are trying lots of different pricing strategies with the iPad. The iPad is the first of many tablets and digital reading devices to come so it acts as a test device for the magazine publishing industry. The strategy Time is implementing appears to be to offer a weekly digital tablet version of its magazine with a price similar to the newsstand price.

Time shared this video showing how it is adapting its magazine for large digital tablet displays like the iPad.
