Sara Lee Corp May Sell Its Household and Body Care Division
Sara Lee Corp. is considering selling its entire household and body care business. The company said it has had offers. Sale of the $2.3 billion division is headquartered in Utrecht, Netherlands and employes 8,000 people. It includes such brands as Brylcreem, Sanex and Prodent.
In a statement released Monday, the firm's chairman and executive officer Brenda C. Barnes said, "Our Household and Body Care business has very strong brands, great distribution and a talented leadership team. In keeping with our commitment to value creation, we will carefully evaluate all opportunities and do what is in the best interest of the company and its stakeholders."
Sara Lee is worth $33 billion, so the sale of the division would increase its cash available for its other divisions. The identity of the potential purchasers have not been identified.
