Chain Store Agereports that Harry & David has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Harry & David is a seller of gourmet gifts and fruit baskets that is best known for its delicious pears. The company - which has around $200 million in outstanding debt - will continue to operate under bankruptcy.
The Wall Street Journalreports that the bankruptcy filing has raised major concerns about the local economy in southwest Oregon. The WSJ says Harry & David is the region's largest private employer.
