FDA Warns Against Buying Fake Potassium Iodide Pills

CNN reports that the FDA has issued a statement warning consumers not to buy fake iodide products online in hopes of reducing radiation exposure to the thyroid gland. An FDA spokesman said "We're alerting consumers to be wary of products that falsely claim to prevent radiation and protect consumers, or are not FDA-approved."

The FDA reminded consumers that there are only three products approved by the agency to protect against radiation: Iosat, made by Anbex; ThyroSafe from Recipharm AB; and ThyroShield from Fleming & Co. These three companies are sold out of their potassium iodide supplements.
