President Barack Obama talked on the phone with Prime Minister Naoto Kan of Japan from the Treaty Room office in the White House residence on Wednesday night. Japan's nuclear threat was likely the main subject of the call. The U.S. and other countries have indicated that Japan's nuclear threat is far more serious than Japan is willing to admit. In a statement, the White House said, "The president briefed Prime Minister Kan on the additional support being provided by the U.S., including specialized military assets with expertise in nuclear response and consequence management."
