The dot com domain is celebrating its 25th anniversary. For many Americans the dot com domain probably seems more like fifteen to twenty years old. PC Worldreports the very first dot com domain was registered on March 15, 1985 by a Massachusetts-based computer manufacturer named Symbolics, Inc. The company registered Symbolics.com. Today the symbolics.com domain is used as the personal blog of Aron Meystedt, owner of XF.com and Symbolics.com. PC World says the second dot com domain wasn't registered until a month later. The number of domains slowly grew to 100 by the end of November in 1987.
Today there are over 85 million dot com domains and over 55,000 new domains registered daily according to data from Domain Tools.
