Olivier Theyskens' fall 2009 ready to wear collection for Nina Ricci was stunning. Eschewing what he calls the "flou" -- the endless soft silk drapings that other designers are showing for fall -- Olivier was interested in a highly structured collection with a futuristic look. The shoulders are fierce and the silhouettes are sharp and sleek, with fantastic architectural details. And the shoes. It was all about the 10 inch high platform shoes and the shoes that had no heels at all. Milla Jovovich said the collection was for the woman from the future and she ought to know -- if you never saw Milla in The Fifth Element, you really must rent it. But we digress. That is welcome news: we just love Olivier and this show was just spectacular. But even he made a bit of a joke about that heel-less shoes that are more suited for intergalactic princesses than Earth-bound career-women: Olivier is wearing very flat shoes when he takes his bow at the end.
