Dorothy Gaiter and John Brecher of The Wall Street Journal's Tastings column decided to do an experiment to see if it might be time to give Merlot another chance. Now that the craze is over and fewer merlot grapes are being planted, the quality of the wine is going back up. Dorothy and John tasted 50 inexpensive Merlots and were pleasantly surprised with the results. Their conclusion? The quality is much better and there are some good bargains. Take a look:
