Studies Question Safety of Long Term Use of Osteoporosis Drugs
The NBC Nightly News did a report on two new studies which suggest that for a minority of women who take bone strengthening drugs for more than five years the drugs actually increase bone loss, instead of decreasing it. The drugs are used to treat osteoporosis and include popular drugs Boniva and Fosamax. They are part of a class of drugs called bisphosphonates. The FDA is now launching an investigation.
