Target is expanding during the recession. Retailer Dailyreports that Target plans to open 27 more stores in 2009 including six full-grocery SuperTargets.
The new stores will include 21 general merchandise Targets and six full-grocery SuperTargets. The general merchandise stores will feature new design layouts, such as larger fitting rooms and pharmacies positioned at the front of the store, as well as in-store amenities such as Starbucks, Target Cafe, and Target Photo. Each general merchandise store employs 150-250 team members and is approximately 128,000 square feet in size. Both new Hawaii stores will be general merchandise locations.
The store openings include Target's first two stores in Hawaii. There's a list of the new Target locations here on Target's website.
