Surprise Upset Could Take Best Picture Oscar From Slumdog Millionaire
The Oscars are just hours away now and soon the stars will be hitting the red carpet. One of the big questions now is whether Slumdog Millionaire is really going to run away with Best Picture as oddsmakers are predicting or whether there will be a surprise winner. The L.A. Timesnotes there have been upsets in the past such as when favorite Brokeback Mountain lost to Crash.
Remember three years ago when dark-horse "Crash" won best film, leaving favorite "Brokeback Mountain" in the dust? Or how about when "Shakespeare in Love" trumped "Saving Private Ryan" a decade ago for the best picture Oscar?
So "Slumdog" may have its day at the Kodak Theatre on Sunday, but maybe "Milk" or even "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" will emerge as the surprise winner.
The acting categories are too close to predict. Will it be previous winner Sean Penn in the lead actor category for his poignant turn as slain gay rights activist Harvey Milk in "Milk"? Or will the comeback kid Mickey Rourke emerge victorious for his lead role in "The Wrestler"?
Time will tell whether Slumdog wins. In the meantime we are looking forward to the best part, the stars arriving on the Red Carpet.
